The Inaugural Home Visitation Program (HVP) Preparatory 1 ─ day Course saw some 15 Commanders from 8 SIR, learning to prepare themselves for Home Visitation.
The participants from 8 SIR went through a full day workshop at eLC Pte Ltd on 21 Dec'10, to learn how to conduct a proper Home Visit, an initiative by G1 Army that was recently awarded to eLC Pte Ltd in December 2010.
Though the participants in general were relatively young, that did not stop them from actively participating and enjoying the workshop. LTA Lim, one of the participants and S1 for 8 SIR also shared some of his personal Home Visitation experiences and contributed to the learning process. "They started out slow but as the workshop progressed, they interacted more and you could see that they were having fun in the process." Remarked Teo Huey Chin, Deputy Head Business Development.
Video analysis was proven very useful during role play where participants reflected on their habits and behavior. The participants jumped on the chance of honing their skills at handling various possible visit scenarios. One such role play dealt with soldiers with unsupportive parents. Another one dealt with difficult soldiers. When queried on the remote possibility of encountering some of these situations, facilitator Ken Liew reasoned that training in the toughest conditions will better prepare one for such encounters and handled visits with more ease.
As the day comes to an end, participants understood the purpose of HVP, know that it supports the Commitment to Defense (C2D) and were generally more confident and convinced that the course equipped them with skills to better handle themselves for a Live visit.
